Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! On behalf of the staff and faculty of Ypsilanti Community Middle School, I am delighted to welcome you and your scholar back for an exciting second half of the school year. We are thrilled to begin the third marking period and look forward to continuing our journey of academic growth and achievement.
Important Updates and Events
School Resumes: Classes resume on Monday, January 6th. Let’s start strong by ensuring that all scholars arrive on time and attend school every day. To promote excellent attendance, we’re excited to host a Perfect Attendance Raffle for January. Scholars with perfect attendance will be eligible to win!
Contact Information: Please provide the most up-to-date phone number, address, emergency card details, and email for your scholar. This information is essential for communication and safety.
New Schedules: Scholars will receive their new schedules upon their return to school.
Building-Wide Assembly: We will kick off the third marking period with a school-wide assembly on Wednesday, January 8th.
2nd Annual Sneaker Ball:
Date: Friday, January 10th
Time: 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Location: YCMS Cafeteria
Scholars are encouraged to dress to impress while wearing their favorite sneakers! The event will feature a DJ, stunning decorations, and plenty of photo opportunities. Tickets are on sale starting tomorrow—please see me for purchase or questions. Note: Scholars who are suspended will not be allowed to attend.
NWEA Testing: Testing will take place on January 14-15th.
Sports Opportunities:
The new marking period brings exciting athletic opportunities! Encourage your scholar to join Girls Basketball, Wrestling, or Swimming. A current sports physical is required. Stop by the office for more information.
Madagascar Jr. Rehearsals:
Rehearsals for our upcoming play, Madagascar Jr., will be held from 2:30–4:00 p.m. Please contact Mrs. Chester with any questions.
YCMS Leadership Team:
We are accepting applications for new members to join the YCMS Leadership Team. Scholars in good academic and behavioral standing may apply. Meetings will take place most Mondays after school, and parents must commit to picking up their child. For more information, please see me directly.
Male Mentoring Group – "Young Kings":
I am excited to launch our Male Mentoring Group, aimed at helping our young boys grow into responsible and confident young men. This group is open to 6th-8th grade scholars with parental support. Scholars must be in good academic and behavioral standing. If interested, please contact me for details.
Upcoming Events:
Math Night: January 23rd, 4:00–5:30 p.m. Join us for engaging activities, raffles, and prizes!
Community Fun Night: January 24th, 6:00–9:00 p.m. An evening of basketball, video games, and fun for all!
Chromebook Care:
Parents, please remind your scholar to handle their Chromebooks responsibly. The number of damaged devices has exceeded our replacement capacity.
Winter Weather Preparedness:
As temperatures drop, please ensure your scholar is dressed warmly with a coat, gloves, and hat.
