November 8, 2023
Dear YCMS Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well! I am reaching out to share some important upcoming events, dates, and information to keep everyone informed about what's happening here at Ypsilanti Community Middle School.
1. Madagascar Auditions:
We’re excited to announce auditions for our first play of the year, Madagascar! We still have openings for students who would like to audition. The show will be held on February 28th and March 1st. Encourage your students to get involved in this fantastic opportunity!
2. Winter Concert:
Our winter concert is scheduled for December 12th. We look forward to showcasing our talented students and hope to see many families in attendance!
3. Immunization Records:
There are still several students without updated immunization records. Please note that students will not be allowed to attend school until they have received their shots or have obtained a waiver. The University of Michigan Clinic within our school is available for immunizations and other health services, so we strongly encourage everyone to sign up their students for access to the clinic.
4. Boys Basketball Season:
Basketball season kicks off on November 12th with a home game against Saline. The 7th-grade game starts at 4:15 pm, and the 8th-grade game follows at 5:30 pm. Let’s pack the stands and show our support for our YCMS players!
5. Middle School Co-Ed Swim Season:
Swim season is just around the corner, and we will hold a Parent and Athlete Informational Meeting on Wednesday, November 13th, at 6 PM at the YCHS Pool on Packard Rd, specifically on the pool deck. The boys' swim season runs from late November through early March, and all practices and home meets will be held at the YCHS pool. The co-ed middle school season begins in December. During this meeting, we will cover practice schedules, team expectations, and more.
6. Educational Benefits Form:
Please return the Educational Benefits form, available on the district website or in our main office. Completing this form will not result in your information being shared with other agencies.
7. After-School Tutoring and Enrichment:
Starting Monday, November 11th, after-school tutoring and enrichment sessions will be held from 2:30 pm to 4 pm. Students must have a ride home or permission to walk home. A monthly calendar with tutoring dates and available teachers will be shared with families. Students should sign up in the cafeteria on the days they plan to stay.
8. Family STEM Night:
We invite all families to join us for Family STEM Night at YCMS Thursday, November 21st from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, and math activities with your children.
9. Dress Code Reminder:
As winter approaches, please ensure students are dressed in layers for warmth. We do not allow slippers, blankets, or coats in school during the day.
10. Dine and Donate at Buffalo Wild Wings:
On November 18th, Buffalo Wild Wings will host a Dine and Donate event for YCMS, where 20% of your bill will be donated to support needy families during the holidays. This is an all-day event, so bring family and friends to support a great cause. Gift cards and take-out orders also qualify!
11. Attendance:
We encourage students to attend school every day and to be on time. If your child must miss school, please call 734-221-1500 option 1 to report their absence.
12. Chromebooks: Please be advised that several students are damaging chromebooks at a rapid rate and the school will not be able to continue to replace chromebooks. Parents will be asked to pay for broken chromebooks so please speak to your child about the importance of the proper use of the chromebooks.
We are grateful for your continued support and involvement in our school community. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the main office.
Warm regards,
Principal Davis
